Penn
lived the life of a country gentleman in Britain until he encountered
the Quaker faith as a young man. His parents argued against
his conversion, but he knew that he must change his life in spite of
their opposition. William Penn founded the Pennsylvania
Colony as
a place for people of all faiths to live together peacefully in the New World. Pennsylvania
Colony was as close as any American Colony would come to a
democracy.
